Another incredible season is coming to a close, and we couldn’t be prouder of our athletes. But don’t worry – the excitement isn’t slowing down at The Zone. It’s now time to get ready for Season 12 with Pegasus Cheer!

Season 12 is all about growth, friendships, skill progression, new goals, and unforgettable memories. Whether your child is brand new or returning for another exciting season, this guide will walk you through what’s coming up and how to get started.

When does Season 12 start?

Season 12 for our full year competitive cheerleading program starts with Assessment Clinics, also called tryouts, on May 20th to 22nd, 2025. The season runs until April/May 2026, with athletes training with coaches, joining a team, building new skills, learning new routines, and performing or competing at multiple events.

We offer teams for all skill levels and ages for athletes born in 2022 or earlier. No experience is needed to join! Our certified coaches will teach you everything you need to know to be successful on and off the mats.

Important Dates to Know

    • Register before April 26th, 2025 to save on both the down payment and monthly tuition fees
      • Assessment or tryout fees are included in the down payment
    • Assessment Clinics (also called tryouts): May 20th to 22nd, 2025
      • Athletes trying out for Novice, Prep, or Travel teams must attend Season 12 assessment clinics. New and returning athletes must try out to show coaches their current or updated skills at the beginning of the season. This is especially important for athletes looking to try out for a different stream or level. Tryouts will be based on individual skills (jumps and tumbling) to determine an athlete’s baseline and evaluate technique.
  • Register For Summer Training: By June 2nd, 2025
    • At Assessment Clinics, families will also register for summer training on Amilia.
  • 4-Week Evaluation Period: June 2nd to 27th, 2025
    • In the four weeks following Assessment Clinics, athletes will train with their age group and stream. Coaches evaluate athletes on group skills, coachability, mindset, and participation before placing them on the best team for their own and the team’s success.
    • During this period, athletes will be evaluated on group skills. Individuals may be asked to move streams or levels during this time to determine the best fit for athlete development and team creation.
    • Families wishing to join a Novice team will practise once a week. Athletes trying out for All Star Prep or the Travel Team will practise on a second day, based on age and level.
  • Team Reveal: Athletes will receive a special invitation to join their Season 12 team.
  • Season 12 Commitment Nights: July 8th to 9th, 2025
    • After receiving their team placement, families will attend commitment nights. These mandatory registration nights allow athletes to connect with their coaches, meet their teammates, get registered for their yearly fees, and be sized for practice gear and uniforms.
  • Team Practices Begin: The week of July 14th
    • Athletes start summer team training, which focuses on skill development, team bonding, conditioning, and learning and reinforcing proper tumbling and stunting techniques.

How Are Teams Made?

We strive to form competitive teams at every age group based on an athlete’s entire skill set. This includes their tumbling levels, however, there may be athletes on any given team who may tumble at a different level than the rest of their teammates.

We look at more than just skills. We also consider effort, attitude, and how athletes work in a group. Our goal is to place every athlete where they can feel successful, learn, and enjoy the season.

On the current scoresheet, stunting is the largest and most important component, and our team placements reflect this. This could mean that athletes may be on a lower-level team than their tumbling capabilities to focus on stunt development.

Athletes interested in competing at their higher tumbling levels are encouraged to inquire about an Indy or Duo in addition to their team.

We know tryouts can feel stressful, but they’re not meant to be scary. At Pegasus, we focus on helping each athlete find the best team for their growth. Think of Assessment Clinics and the 4-week evaluation period as your athlete’s chance to show what they can do, meet new friends, and get placed on a team that’s right for them.

How Much Does It Cost?

We aim to make cheerleading affordable and fun for families in the Quinte region. We offer payment plans, fundraising options, and sponsorship and funding opportunities. For a full breakdown of costs, download our Season 12 Full Year Package now at https://zoneathletics.ca/cheerleading/
